What is a birth/labor doula?

A birth or labor doula is a woman trained and experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a woman during late pregnancy, labor, birth and the early postpartum period.

What Doesn’t a Doula Do?

Although I am trained as a Nursing Assistant, I do not preform clinical skills as your doula. Should you want clinical services, these can be offered under an offered service as a Birth Assistant. I can not make clinical decisions for you though I will do my best to inform you of possible situations before labor and the evidence behind the different choices.

what is a postpartum doula?

Postpartum doulas care for new families in the first weeks after birth providing household help, advice with newborn care and feeding, and emotional support.

What Are the Benefits Having a Doula?

According to evidence-based research, birth doulas can have great effects on birth outcomes, such as shorter labors, fewer complications, a reduced risk of Cesarean birth, less need for medication to speed up labor, and fewer requests for pain medication or epidurals (especially if the mother starts labor not intending to use medication)

I will have my partner, do i need a doula?

As a doula I will not replace your partner or family, instead I am an additional support person who will help ensure your wishes are heard and are executed. I will offer physical support during labor by massage, applying pressure to the back, offering food or drinks, and suggesting different positions to help with pain and baby’s position. In short, I fill in where your partner doesn’t feel comfortable and help them know what to do to best support you.

Do you accept Insurance or medicaid?

While I do not accept insurance at this time, I do offer doula services at a reduced fee to individuals with proof of Medicaid. Others who have HSA/FSA accounts, may use these accounts for payment or reimbursement of services.
