1. Who are you, and what is your background?
I’m a labor and postpartum doula with over 10 years of experience. My journey began after working in Mother/Baby and Labor & Delivery at Northside Hospital in Atlanta. Since then, I’ve supported more than 400 births and am passionate about helping families have positive birth experiences.
2. What is your philosophy as a doula?
I believe, “If you don’t know your options, you don’t have any. You only have what someone tells you.” I’m committed to evidence-based care and empowering families with the information they need to make the best decisions for themselves.
3. What are the benefits of having a doula?
According to evidence-based research, birth doulas can have significant positive effects on birth outcomes, including:
• Shorter labors
• Fewer complications
• Reduced risk of Cesarean birth
• Less need for medication to speed up labor
• Fewer requests for pain medication or epidurals
4. What exactly does a doula do?
As your doula, I provide evidence-based information and support, helping you and your family make informed choices. I teach self-advocacy and am present to offer reminders, guidance, and emotional support throughout your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey.
5. What are the limits of your role as a doula?
I do not perform any medical tasks such as taking blood pressure or conducting cervical exams, nor do I speak on your behalf. All final decisions about your care are made by you or your designated medical proxy. My role is to help you weigh your options and support your choices.
6. What services are included in your labor doula packages?
Depending on the package you choose, services may include:
• 1–3 prenatal visits (in your home or my office)
• Continuous labor and delivery support
• Unlimited email, text, or phone support during pregnancy
• Herbal sitz bath
• 1–2 postpartum visits
• Placenta encapsulation
7. How many births have you attended?
I’ve had the honor of supporting over 400 births—so you’ll be in experienced hands!
8. Do I need a doula if I plan to have an epidural?
Absolutely! If you choose an epidural, I’ll support you with position changes to encourage progress toward a vaginal delivery and coach you through pushing. I’m also there to help if your birth plan needs to change.
9. Will you help me create a birth plan?
Yes! We’ll work together to create a personalized birth plan during one of your prenatal visits.
10. What happens during prenatal visits?
Prenatal visits are tailored to your needs but typically include:
• Visit 1: The three pillars of a healthy pregnancy and labor (nutrition, movement, emotional/mental preparation), addressing concerns, and beginning your birth plan.
• Visit 2: Preparing for baby’s first 6 weeks, feeding options, and what to expect if a C-section is needed.
• Visit 3: Postpartum expectations, when to call your birth team, labor positions, and comfort techniques.
11. How long does each prenatal visit last?
Each visit is about 1 to 1.5 hours long.
12. If I have a midwife, do I still need a doula?
Yes! While midwives handle important medical tasks, I provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support—helping with position changes, comfort measures, and advocacy.
13. I will have my partner—do I still need a doula?
A doula does not replace your partner or family. Instead, I am an added support person who helps ensure advocacy. I fill in where your partner may not feel comfortable and help them know how to best support you.
14. Do you accept insurance or Medicaid?
While I do not accept insurance at this time, I offer doula services at a reduced fee to individuals with proof of Medicaid. HSA or FSA funds may be used.
15. Do you have personal birth experience?
Yes! I have two children, both born vaginally without an epidural in a hospital. I hope to experience a home birth one day, too!
